REAL FANTASY

The fruits of the writer's imagination can become reality. This is what James McTeag's 2012 film The Crow states ("V is for Vendetta").

This is a thriller about the dark fate of the main romantic of the 19th century. Edgar Allan Poe (actor John Cusack), whose works became the inspiration for the serial killer based on their stories. The poet comes face to face with the product of his creativity. The entire film is a chase and pursuit against the backdrop of unnaturally bloody massacres and the dark atmosphere of the city - typical features of American thrillers. A whirlpool of violence and screams, in which the audience is spinning together with E. Poe. But this only happens in scary scenes that hold attention for a moment.

As a result, "The Raven" is a film of momentary tensions, which  according to the plot stands next to the painting "From Hell" (directed by Albert Hughes, 2001), without leaving behind a feeling of fear. At the same time, he carries elements of dark romance, which attracts. It is expressed in playing with gray and blue colors, dark landscapes and images of a raven, thanks to which the film claims to be Gothic . A beautiful note of mystery is brought in by quotes from Poe's poems and stories, through the prism of which you can see the film. With their subtlety, they are able to replace the music that is presented  in the picture only with light strokes.

Against the general dramatic background, short moments of love, the ability to sacrifice are revealed. This is reflected in the light shots of the poet and his beloved Emily (actress Ellis Eve).

"The Raven" is an attempt to look into the mystical soul of a creative person who breathes emotions and is able to give himself without a trace.

This is the story of a man who, like a raven, flies over the world, renouncing everything. He is alone with his pain and disappointment. A servant of art who can become its victim, obeying his imagination.
